Day 22 - room system
Hi, everyone!
I’ve been working on the room system, where you can expand the shop and create rooms by placing walls around a space.
I’m still figuring out the best way to make it seamless, easy to edit, and intuitive to use.
So far, these are the core criteria I’m focusing on:
- Area extension can be done just like placing furniture or decor
- Rooms are created by surrounding a space with walls
- Automatic detection and assignment of rooms
But here are a few questions I’m thinking about:
- How do I make sure managing multiple rooms doesn’t overwhelm players?
- Should placing walls be irreversible?
Or should there be a maintenance feature where a room becomes unavailable for a while, preventing customer entry?
Here are some fun features I’m brainstorming:
- Kicking out customers: If regular customers are occupying rooms or tables when a VIP arrives, the player can choose to kick them out—at the cost of a penalty
- Summoning furniture through playful mechanics
- Room bonuses: certain room setups grant special buffs
I want to make the system engaging with a layer of strategy, but not too hard to learn or manage.
Thanks for reading! I’ll be back tomorrow with more updates.
