Day 5 – Inventory System and UX Questions
Hi there, I’m back again!
Today, I focused on the inventory system—specifically hover toggling, item descriptions, and the basics of UI behavior. It’s starting to take shape!
I’ll be posting a short clip of what I’ve built on my studio blog soon, so feel free to check it out once it’s up.
As usual, I got a lot of help from AI (yes, ChatGPT if you're curious). Though I tweaked a lot of the details to fit my design needs and allow future customization.
The inventory system is currently built around a grid layout, which is now functional. However, I haven’t added any scrollable slot bar like the one in Minecraft—you know, the 10 quick-access slots you can scroll through or toggle with number keys.
Right now, I’m trying to decide between two directions:
- Should I add a hotbar-style scrollable slot system for quick access?
- Or should selecting an item directly trigger placement mode, skipping the extra UI?
Still exploring what feels best-let me know what you think!
