Life, game dev, and being a dad (Day 38)
Hi, everyone. I noticed my game dev post yesterday got pretty hot. I assume it’s because of the ambiguous title that I put in: ‘Talk to me, stranger.’ Stranger refers to customers in my game with whom the player can talk and interact.
For any of you who are interested, I’ve been working on a game called Dungeon Merchant. My only goal was to start a game dev and keep working for at least a month.
It’s been almost 40 days (yeah, it’s not 40 days, but you know, life is about exaggerating). For 40 days, I set up a personal blog, bearblog here. Studis blog on Substack. I made some weekly dev videos, and especially daily blogs like this.
It is not easy of course. I’ve got my job for life. I’m also a dad of two kids. I kinda get a grasp of why all those Reddit posts tell people it’s not easy but keep going until it finally shines.
I do enjoy the whole process. However the pain point is the part where I don’t like my game, and I don’t see a way to make it better. It’s different kinds than research and development. It’s more about asking about the origin of human beings, or the existence of God.
I mumbled about the stuff about me. The reason I wrote down my personal stuff this long is that I haven’t worked a lot of stuff today. Today’s update —-
- now I started working on an abstract design for players can talk to any NPC
- I set up dialogue graphs using XNode.
